Conqs' season ends with loss to Cowley; DCCC wins 18 games

The Conqs swept Air Force Prep on April 22, 3-0 and 11-1. After dropping the Saturday doubleheader to Butler, DCCC came back for a 9-3 victory in Sunday's opener and were denied a sweep when the Grizzlies scored twice in the top of the seventh and held on for a 6-5 triumph.
DCCC spotted Butler an early 3-0 lead before posting five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to get Cruz Sedillo his first victory of the season in eight decisions.
The Conqs rallied in the fifth when, with one out, Taylor Doan was hit by a pitch. Ryan Bibens' single to center and David Saiz's infield hit loaded the bases for Mike Schnedar, who singled, scoring Doan. Javier Alvarado then blasted a grand slam to right field, putting DCCC ahead, 5-3.
In rounded third and Doan scored. Alvarado homered to right field with four RBI as Schnedar, Saiz, and Bibens scored. Absher flied out to short and Gee lined out left. singled to center, sending Doan to second. Mike Schnedar singled to shortstop and Saiz advanced to second. Bibens rounded third and Doan scored. Alvarado homered to right field with four RBI as Schnedar, Saiz, and Bibens scored. Absher flied out to short and Gee lined out to left.
The Conqs added to their lead and put the game out of reach in the sixth, scoring four more runs.
Butler reliever Brett Macari opened the inning by walking right fielder Seth Means. Means took second on a fielding error when Kelly McMinn's sacrifice attempt was mishandled, and everyone was safe. Macari then hit Doan with a pitch, loading the bases. Bibens' single to right scored Means, and McMinn came home on Saiz's single.
Schnedar's single to center drove in both Bibens and Doan, giving DCCC a 9-3 lead it would not relinquish.
Sedillo then closed out the complete-game victory by yielding only a harmless single in the top of the seventh.
In the nightcap, DCCC again spotted Butler an early 3-0 lead, then tied the score in the third.
McMinn reached on another Butler error to begin the inning, taking second because of the errant throw. He then scored when Doan doubled to left. Doan then scored on Bibens' single, and Bibens took second on the throw. He scored the Conqs' third run of the inning when Alvarado singled to left.
DCCC added two runs in the fourth. With one out, Chase Collins tripled to right-center and then scored when McMinn singled to center. McMinn came home when Doan singled.
Leading 5-3, DCCC couldn't hold on, allowing a single run to Butler in the fifth and the deciding two in the top of the seventh, all off Conqs starter Scott Schlosser.
On April 22, DCCC played host to Air Force Prep in a nonconference doubleheader.
The Conqs took two from the Huskies, winning the opener, 3-0, as David Saiz and Kyle Kegley combined for a one-hitter.
DCCC managed six hits in the game, led by two hits from Doan.
The Conqs jumped on Huskies starter Alex Baker quickly, scoring twice in the first inning.
With one out, Cody Lunsford ttripled to right. After Schnedar was hit by a pitch. Lunsford scored on a fielder's choice by Alvarado, and Schnedar was safe at second. Means' fielder's choice forced Alvarado, with Schnedar taking third. A Baker fielding error allowed Schnedar to score the Conqs' second run of the inning.
DCCC's only other run came in the fourth. Means led off with a walk and stole second. After McMinn sacrificed Means to third, Means scored on Chris DeBoer's infield groundout.
Saiz gave up just a first-inning single to Caleb Spengler, and kept Air Force Prep in check the rest of his four innings. He walked just two and struck out two. Kegley relieved in the fifth and walked one and struck out three in three hitless innings.
In the nightcap, the Conqs scored 10 times in the third and rolled to an 11-1 rout in a game shortened to five innings.
Lunsford had three hits, Means drove in two runs and Jorden Johnson was 2-for3 with three RBI. Ethan Gee's double was DCCC's lone extra-base hit in the 11 the Conqs had.
