Students from the Painting, Design II, Metalsmithing, Ceramics, Drawing, and Photography classes came together to display their work from the past semester on Friday 24th, 2009. Over 100 students, friends, and family members came to the reception held in the lobby of the Little Theatre.
Refreshments were served as everyone strolled about admiring the art and discussing the pieces.
Brian Myers was awarded a certificate for his excellent work in Painting. For Ceramics, Mallory Anderson received an award for her piece, "Burned." Students received awards for almost every class, and all walked away from the reception feeling accomplished and proud of their work.
Following the reception at the Little Theatre, many attendants headed down to the Carnegie Center on Spruce and Second Avenue, where there was a photography display of landscapes from around Kansas. Also, anyone who wished to had the opportunity to participate in open mic poetry. Anyone could read their own written piece or a personal favorite from a well-known or even obscure poet.
Many people took part in the open poetry reading, including some students from the college, and even a man traveling cross-country on his bicycle. It was an impressive sight to witness as people from every age group and walks of life come together to chuckle or maybe even cry over a great piece of writing.
The art show here on campus will be up through the end of the semester. Why not reward yourself for surviving finals week by heading over to the Little Theatre?
I strongly encourage anyone with spare time to stop by and check out the show.
Our campus is full of talent, and the Spring Student Art Show is the perfect way to experience all the art students have to offer. So, if you ever happen to be walking by, drop in to check out some amazing pieces.
